Career

Karolin Schmidt has been a junior professor of behavioral psychology with a focus on interventions in the field of the circular economy at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) since October 2024. Her research interests focus on the role of consumers in the transformation towards a sustainable carbon-based chemical industry based on a circular economy (with a focus on plastic production). In her research, she also deals with the explanation and promotion of sustainable everyday behavior of consumers in various areas of consumption (e.g. nutrition, energy, mobility, etc.), as well as with the theory-based development and impact evaluation of psychological interventions to promote sustainable consumption practices in the laboratory and in the field.

In addition to her research work, Karolin Schmidt supervises various courses and student theses as part of the Master's program in Psychology with a focus on Environmental Psychology/Human-Technology Interaction at OVGU.

From 2015 to 2024, she was a research assistant in the Department of Environmental Psychology at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. In 2020, she successfully completed her doctorate with the cumulative dissertation “The avoidance of food overconsumption in households as a key area for promoting conscious and climate-friendly food consumption”.
